It's only a week until my fortnight's jaunt to Europe, so I thought I'd post a couple of my new tripfits. According to the weather reports it will be around -1 to 11 Celsius across Brussels, France and London (22 - 51F for our non-metric friends). However, as previously mentioned I run a bit hot, so I'm going on the layering theory with some silk thermal undergarments for good measure...
First up is the Simplicity 4789 Maggy London knot dress out of the giant orchid knit from my Spotlight Knit Shopping expedition:
Comfy, dressy, and rolls up into a nice small space.
I also made a plain black version of McCalls 6081 that can be used as a dress or a skirt. As a dress:
As a skirt, over the top of the orchid dress:
I also made a tiny happy over-the-shoulder bag for walking about the town. I put a zip in, which went in easily and sits rather nicely I am happy to say. It's big enough to fit the iPad in (I put a pocket in). I lined it with green ripstop nylon, but I neglected to take a pic of the lining...
I also bought some more shoes from Amazon. These are the Dansko Savanna which are already lovely and comfortable. Yay for good travel shoes!
I'm also taking the grey ponti pinafore, Citrine (doubleknit travel coat from a couple of years ago), a skirt from the scribble ponti that Kitty made her lovely frock from (it's a plain knit skirt so I haven't taken a pic), and one short sleeve and one long sleeved wrap top from Butterick 5101.

Anyone else, these would be their summer tripfits, Hot Mog!
Please tell me you are taking a cardi!
I've got a long sleeved top! And one of those merino long sleeved t-shirts! And long socks! Will I be too warm?
Oh my... You're planning on wool tights at least under that, and boots? Where's the wool coat, the hats, the gloves, the scarves? You really think you're going to be wearing -dresses-, synthetic and with deep v-necks no less, to Europe in March?!?
Chances are you'll be fine in the afternoon, but that's far from the only time you'll want/need to be outside. And remember these are AVERAGE temperatures. Today we had a lovely afternoon,my first time without a scarf this year. But it snowed earlier this week, the South of France, elevation 100m. Imagine London..
You're failing to account for wind chill, which will take you below zero as effective temperature most of the time. I'm not saying not to wear your pretty pink dress, I'm just saying it needs at least 3 or 4 layers of wool under and over, whatever, in order not to cause severe hypothermia. The flu epidemic is still going strong, dress like this and you'll be sure to enjoy figuring out the better health care system..
Don't worry, I do also have wool tights, and a wool long sleeved top for under, and gloves and scarves, and a thick skirt, and a wool wrap long sleeved top, and a long sleeved silk turtleneck, and thermal underthings, and slips, and a coat! These are my layerings and doubling as options for any 10+ degree days...
I think Marie Christine might be right! Lovely things but way too springtime.
Great travel shoes. Love the skirt/dress idea. I need one of these in my travel wardrobe.
There is truly nothing like Dansko. With all your layers it sounds like you'll be fine. Love the wardrobe!
I have to say your love of the Dansko inspired me to try them... My feet thank you! They aren't readily available in Australia, but Amazon.com ship 'em cheap so they are irresistible. I'm up to 5 pairs now...
