Yesterday's frock again.I took out the zip, and clawed back about a centimetre of ease by sewing it back in on a smaller seam allowance. Of course the zip was one of the best I'd ever done, and *sob* it's not as neat and even now. (no one else will notice, but still, annoyment).
It feels a bit better, but doesn't look too different. I might make a stand-by frock from the rest of this fabric (because, Carol-of-the-comments, I do want to eat at the wedding...why else does one go to a wedding if not for a free feed?)
I shall shop the pattern stash.

Yes, chowing down is good... as is sitting down, which is handy to be able to do in a frock.
I think opening up the vertical darts is your best bet. Good luck, it's a lovely dress.
Glad you saved this dress because it's lovely. I forgot that sitting is important, too.
is it underlined all the way down? Taking that out except for at the zipper, and above the bust, would give you a lot of room. And I agree with opening up the darts.
I made my daughter's formal dress too tight in the bodice. My fix was to unpick the zip, and add 2 bias cut strips of fabric to the seam. Then reinserted the invisible zip. The finished result looked like wide flat piping taken down to a v at the end.
Oh, sad! I have been known to open out the side seams and a strip of fabric for a gusset to too-small projects. It seems to look terrible while you're doing it, but after you finish the project and age it for a couple weeks you forget why you hated the gussets so much. They just look like another seam.
