Vintage vogue 8728

This vintage vogue reissue pattern...

Plus this vintage cotton fabric (from etsy)...

Made this dress...

I changed the waist gathers to four pleats on both the front and back, because I prefer pleats to gathered waists. I made my own bias binding for the neckline, first time ever! With a bias maker it was easy.

Belt or no?

That turned out beautifully. I vote no belt!

What a pretty dress! I think it would look great with a yellow belt.

I love it and I would wear it with the belt. I like Shannon's yellow belt suggestion, too.

Beautiful! Is this a woven cotton? The other reviews I've seen for this dress use knits, but I'm wondering how well it would work in a woven. I also think a yellow belt would work. The black overpowers the softness of the dress.

Adorable! This pattern is on my list to sew for summer. I like it without the belt, but in person I always end up wearing a belt. I think it looks great either way!

Gorgeous dress, I love, love the fabric! I vote no belt and am going to find my copy of this pattern and bring it to life for me!

Thanks for your lovely feedback on the frock everyone!
Lady Be Good, it is a woven cotton. The pattern suggests jerseys and lightweight linen so it's for knits and wovens!

Not a huge vintage fan, but LOVE this dress. I like it with and without the belt. The belt is more contemporary, beltless is more summer.

that fabric is so awesome, I love grey, white and yellow it's such a classic combination. I agree with Gail - a belt is more contemporary look, although a 1950s dress often has a self matched fabric belt.
